Pillar 2 – Women in Semiconductors

The semiconductor industry in the US and Japan faces a significant workforce shortage over the next decade. Pillar 2 addresses this challenge by delivering programs that prepare all students for careers in semiconductors, with a deliberate effort to broaden the talent pipeline by increasing the participation of women. Through experiences that engage high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, this pillar sparks interest in semiconductor education and careers while helping to ensure a stronger, more robust workforce.

The UPWARDS network is committed to strengthening the culture and visibility of semiconductors across its universities by encouraging students, particularly women, to pursue and remain in STEM disciplines. Distinguished professors at each institution will be recognized as role models for their expertise in microelectronics and semiconductors. In partnership with Micron and TEL, UPWARDS will continue to support faculty in taking on leadership roles and facilitating events that raise awareness of educational and career pathways for students who might not otherwise be exposed to them.
